Tennis Shropshire’s Ladies’ Winter Doubles League attracts record numbers
The winners of the eight divisions of Tennis Shropshire's annual Ladies' Winter Doubles League received their trophies at a well-attended presentation evening.
The popular league, which provides competitive tennis throughout the winter months, continues to go from strength to strength.
The latest competition attracted record numbers with its biggest-ever entry across eight divisions, with matches played around the county between September and March.
Tennis Shropshire chair Fiona Jones said: “The continued success of the Winter League is fantastic and enormous thanks to Merill Holt for once again organising such a hugely successful competition.
“To have eight divisions, the biggest entry, is testament to its popularity.
“It was lovely to have 22 doubles pairings attending the presentation evening.
"They enjoyed playing short tennis in the Cathie Sabin Community Tennis Centre, with the competition well organised by Amy Dannatt, before heading to The Shrewsbury Club for sandwiches and chips ahead of the awards being presented.”
The winners of division one were Caroline Michie and Rosie Connolly, with Bethan Francis and Lucy Cook the division two winners.
The other divisional winners were:
Division Three: Jan Deane and Jane Gibson;
Division Four: Susie Barker and Sue Groves;
Division Five: Celia Toogood and Bridget Pritchard;
Division Six: Jessica Spellman and Louise Boyling;
Division Seven: Louise Heath and Jenny Davies;
Division Eight: Sarah Crabb and Rebekha Tee.
