Free open afternoon including walking tennis to take place at Shrewsbury’s Cathie Sabin Community Tennis Centre on Sunday

Fun tennis activities for people of all ages will be on offer at Tennis Shropshire's Cathie Sabin Community Tennis Centre this weekend.

A free open afternoon will be held at the indoor two-court venue, located on The Shrewsbury Club site at Sundorne Road, on Sunday afternoon, October 29.

Children aged eight and under have the chance to pick up a racket between noon and 1pm. Over-eights then have an opportunity to play tennis from 1-2pm.

It's the turn of adults between 3-4pm, before a walking tennis session will end Sunday's open afternoon from 4-5pm.

Fiona Jones, the Tennis Shropshire chair, said: “This is an open afternoon to showcase just what a wonderful facility the Cathie Sabin Community Tennis Centre is.

“It was officially opened earlier this year by LTA president Sandi Procter and provides a range of tennis coaching programmes for all ages.

“This open afternoon is another way of hopefully encouraging more people to give tennis a go and to see what a fantastic sport it is to play.

“After the open sessions for children and adults, we are pleased to offer people the chance to take part in walking tennis.

“This is perfect for people who perhaps used to play tennis and don't feel they are maybe able to run as they used to, and also for people who haven't tried tennis before and the thought of covering a whole court is putting them off.

“They might find out that they enjoy walking tennis and would hopefully like to play more regularly.

“We are looking forward to welcoming people to the Cathie Sabin Community Tennis Centre on Sunday. "It's free and all equipment will be provided for anyone who would like to take part.”
